Exterior Decking
IFPC has provided exterior decking to public and private clients worldwide since its beginning in 1993. The initial contract for IFPC launched in Charleston, SC, to install nonskid surfaces on the USS O'Bannon (DD-987), the last of the Spruance-class destroyers in the U.S. Navy. IFPC expanded its services throughout the years, breaking into divisions, with IFPC's exterior decking remaining the company's backbone. We proudly claim that our primary client, the U.S. government, has held an ongoing indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) exterior decking contract with us for 20 years. We recognize critical missions, and our technicians often work 24x7 to meet extreme deadlines.
Exterior decking services include specialized containment/tenting, surface preparation, and nonskid removal and replacement. Safety is of utmost importance to IFPC professionals, and we strive to ensure that our customers have first-rate decking surfaces. From clean-up to custom installations, we work with designers, contractors, and users to provide high-quality services and materials that are cost-effective.
Case Studies
USS Gerald R. Ford - Exterior Decking on Flight Deck and Hangar Bay
Newport News, VA - Under construction, 350,000 SF
Leading a new class of aircraft carriers, the Ford bears the label of a "supercarrier" and has quite a few design advantages for increased efficiency and better operations. Several sections of the flight deck have been altered from the layout of the Nimitz-class flight deck to improve aircraft handling, storage, and flow. Under contract with Huntington Ingalls Industries, IFPC is preparing and installing the exterior decking on the ship's 235,000SF flight deck and 70,000SF hangar bay. Certified technicians provide decking services, and surfaces range from flight decks to more exemplary characters on the ship's edges. Work also includes coating the surfaces of 150 portable ramps and marking the visual landing aids (VLAs).
USS Wasp (LHD-1) - Exterior Decking on Flight Deck
Norfolk, VA - Completed 2013, 90,000 SF
IFPC replaced the flight deck on this multipurpose amphibious assault ship under a contract with BAE Systems. Work included the nonskid surfaces of the wheel-stops and catwalks, as well as the areas meeting the eight (8) elevators that service the hangar bay and flight deck. Materials are needed to sustain aircraft such as various helicopters, Osprey VTOL tiltrotor aircraft, and Harrier II jets.
