Water Jet Technology

With changing Federal regulations, expanded environmental concerns and increasing waste disposal expenditures, International Flooring and Protective Coatings, Inc. has dedicated its efforts to identifying and utilizing the most advanced technology available for removing existing coatings from steel structures and surfaces.

We pride ourselves on our commitment to minimizing surface preparation costs while increasing labor and process efficiency.  Time and time again, IFPC has applied these technologies and processes with great success.  We have cleaned and recoated hundreds of thousands of square feet in demanding environments and circumstances.

IFPC specializes in 10,000 to 40,000 psi Ultra High Pressure surface preparation using robotic self-contained systems, concrete hydrocutting and hydrodemolition, pavement marking, rubber removal systems, and industrial waterblasting services. IFPC also specializes in removing urethanes, epoxies, lead-base coatings and membranes from concrete and steel structures.

Water jetting involves the use of ultra high pressure water, usually between 30,000 psi and 40,000 psi to prepare a surface for a coating or paint.  Ideal for government and industrial applications, water jetting provides a powerful, environmentally safe way of solving difficult cleaning, cutting and surface preparation problems.

With regards to surface preparation, water jetting is the process of removing contaminants (such as oils, salts, rust, marine growth and chemicals) from a surface.  Surfaces may include ship hulls and decking, large storage tanks (internal and external), walk ways, airport runways, road maintenance, rocket engine and projectile propellant removal and helipads.  Other contaminants include old paint, sugars, scale, and rust.  The process uses motors, pumps and accessories to ensure that the surface is prepared effectively and efficiently.

Another benefit is the completely effective and environmentally friendly manner of surface preparation for the coating application aspect of water jetting.  Compared to abrasive blasting such as sand or steel shot, water jetting leaves 98% less residue behind and is dust free.  Further, dust free environments allow coating and painting to occur simultaneously with surface preparation.  Multi-layered coating system removal is possible with water jetting, and there is no damage to sensitive areas such as welding seams and connecting joints.

In recent years, Ultra High Pressure Water Jetting has become the leading method for surface preparation.  Simply put, IFPC’s water jetting technology allows for a cleaner surface in less time – which in turn allows for improved surface preparation and ultimate coating application.
